From Antigua, Guatemala we took a 4am shuttle straight to Copan Ruinas, the town where the famous Copan Ruins are located. While 4am isn't exactly a preferable time of departure, it did mean that we were in Honduras by 10am and at the ruins by lunchtime.
To get to Copan from Guatemala, you can take chicken buses out of Guatemala City, but everyone says Guatemala City is extremely dangerous, so we left our chicken bus experiences for the countryside and opted for the shuttle from Antigua.
We crossed the border at El Florido and it was extremely painless. The whole thing took about 15 minutes, including changing out money at the border. In addition, you'll have to pay a $3 entrance fee to get into Honduras.
I should note that changing out money has been surprisingly fair. In all the countries that we've visited, the exchange rates haven't been that bad. That is, with the exception of this one particular border. For what it's worth, I would advise changing out money in Copan Ruinas if you can, which is only a short ride from the border.
