Copan Ruinas, Honduras

The ruins were easily one of the coolest things I've seen... ever.  Since we were visiting in the off-season, we pretty much had the place to ourselves.  The ruins themselves were a mix of partially restored and actual ruins.

Copan is known for its stelae, which are tall, intricately carved columns telling the Mayan history through hieroglyphic texts.  Some of the stelae and other important sculpture were placed in an adjacent museum to protect the pieces from the elements.

I'll leave the rest for the plethora of photos.  Enjoy.

Where We Stayed:  Hotel Mar Jenny.  Clean with friendly staff.   Located close to the town center.  Hot water and internet.  There's plenty of options so you can look around.

Where We Ate:  Go figure but the cafeteria at the ruins has great food and reasonable prices as compared to other places in town.  Get the baleadas.  There's also a bunch of restaurants in town that have happy hours, etc.  Best of all are the street vendors that sell plates of food a block away from the central square.  Delicious and cheap!

What We Did:  Ruins, drinking with locals
