Lake Nicaragua

Lago de Nicaragua is the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world.  The lake also has claim to fresh water sharks (no sightings) and the largest volcanic island in any lake in the world, Isla de Ometepe.  When we found we could take a ferry from the port town of San Carlos and avoid cutting back down to San Jose, we jumped at the opportunity.
