Nicaraguan Food and Drink

I´m in heaven.  As much as I came to love the tortillas of Panama, they know how to do it here in Nicaragua.  Empanadas are served with yummy fillings of rice and chicken and the crispy shell makes it a great snack on the go.  Like Costa Rica, Nicaragua makes gallo pinto (rice and beans) a part of their breakfast and I'm all too happy to keep eating it as we make our way north.

As far as libations are concerned, Nicaragua may hold claim to the world's best rum, Flor de Caña.  This is definitely a subject of much debate and many tastings are required to really get to the bottom of this dilemma.

As for beer, Toña wins for best label, but Victoria edges ahead in flavor.  The Victoria Frost is basically like a Corona, but I can't really affix any seal of approval.
